Position Description

About Us:
Nestled on the stunning Coromandel coast, our marine service centre is a trusted name in boat maintenance, repair, and performance upgrades. We work with a wide range of vessels—from recreational boats to commercial craft—and pride ourselves on delivering top-quality workmanship with a reputation for excellence. Based out of our modern 4 bay workshop, our team of technicians is supported by a workshop foreman and parts department, enabling you to focus on what you do best.

As authorised dealers for Volvo Penta, Cummins, Honda Marine and Suzuki Marine and the New Zealand representative for Alamarin Jet, our varied workload includes vessel repowers, new engine commissions, servicing and repairs for both commercial and recreational customers. Whitianga boasts atop-class marina and extensive residential canal system for launches, fishing and tourism vessels and many trailer boats.

The Role:
We’re looking for a motivated experienced Marine Technician to join our growing team. If you love the ocean, enjoy hands-on work, and want to live in one of New Zealand’s most beautiful coastal towns, this is the opportunity for you.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Accurate fault diagnostics and repairs of marine engines (inboard and outboard)
  • Perform routine maintenance and servicing (outboards, inboards, jet units, stern drives)
  • Install and troubleshoot marine electronics and systems
  • Conduct sea trials and safety checks
  • Maintain accurate service records and reports

What We’re Looking For:

  • Proven experience as a marine technician or mechanic
  • Strong knowledge of marine engines, priority will be given to applicants with prior experience in a dealership environment
  • Electrical and diagnostic skills in 12V and 24V systems. Certification in 240V systems would be desirable
  • Relevant trade qualification or equivalent experience
  • A team player with a can-do attitude and attention to detail
  • Ability to work unsupervised
  • NZ residency or a valid work visa
  • Must have a full class 1 driving license and be comfortable performing duties both in the workshop and on customers vessels situated around the Coromandel Peninsula

Why Whitianga?

  • Live where others holiday—beaches, fishing, diving, and boating at your doorstep
  • Friendly, laid-back community with a great lifestyle
  • Affordable coastal living with easy access to Auckland and Hamilton

We Offer:

  • Competitive pay based on experience
  • Ongoing training and development
  • Supportive fun team environment
