MAST Academy is a specialist Auckland based, Private Training Establishment supporting the marine, composites, marina, and specialist technologies (e.g. Industrial Textiles, aerospace), sectors. We work closely with industry to develop innovative, practical, high-quality training that leads to meaningful qualifications, apprenticeships, and career pathways.

We are a growing PTE adding new sectors and industries to the portfolio of industries we support. We deliver apprenticeships, work based learning and campus based learning from pre trade to leadership and project management.
About the role
We are seeking an experienced Learning and Assessment Designer to develop high-quality assessments and learning resources primarily the marine sector and specialised technology sectors. This role plays a critical part in ensuring programmes and assessments meet NZQA, Industry Skills Body (ISB) quality & moderation requirements, while supporting learner achievement, employer need and qualification outcomes. The role is critical to supporting learner success and contributes to the development of new and revised qualification programmes. The role also is to provide back up for the administration of the LMS.
The role would suit a person coming from an ITO/WDC, PTE or industry background with assessment design experience, who has a good understanding of work based learning assessment and programme development. It is preferable to have some understanding of instructional design principles & methodologies and understanding of common learning management systems.
You will work closely with the quality and learning and development team, subject matter experts, and the Learning Management System (LMS) team to design engaging, accessible, and effective learning and assessment packages.
This role is full time but consideration will be given to a fixed term position for the right person.
Key responsibilities
- Develop assessments and learning resources using sound instructional design methodologies to support learner achievement.
- Ensure all assessment materials meet NZQA, moderation, and regulatory requirements.
- Develop and update programmes and assessments for new and revised qualifications, ensuring alignment with NZQA and Industry Skills Body (ISB) requirements.
- Collaborate with subject matter experts to translate industry requirements into effective learning and assessment packages.
- Provide backup support to the Learning Management System (LMS) Lead Coordinator, as LMS administration support.
- Maintain accurate documentation and version control of learning and assessment materials.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of learning & assessment design practices.
About you
You will bring a strong understanding of assessment design within the New Zealand vocational education system, along with a learner-focused approach.
You will ideally have:
- Proven experience in learning and assessment design within a NZQA vocational education environment.
- Strong knowledge of assessment design, moderation, and programme approval requirements.
- Experience developing programmes and assessments leading to qualifications and micro credentials.
- Sound understanding of instructional design methodologies.
- Experience working with Learning Management Systems – Canvas (administration and/or design).
- Be a team player & have excellent verbal & written communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.

This is an Auckland based role with flexible working arrangements within a very supportive fun team. We have a wellbeing package, are currently based in Westhaven, with parking available but we are close to public transport also. Must be able to work in the office and we offer one day a week working from home.
